Yellow Cedar is one of the
world’s most durable woods with exceptional longevity. Its fine even texture
makes it the ideal choice for turnings and carvings.
The wood is incredibly easy
to work with and therefore suited to applications such as joinery, carpentry,
decorative paneling, furniture, mouldings and cabinetwork. The wood has
moderate nail and screw holding ability and can be easily machined and
finished. Natural finish looks best. Unlike most softwoods, density across
single growth rings is quite uniform, making this a very good carving and
woodworking species. It is sometimes used in specialty construction projects
such as temples and shrines.
Samples of the wood and
technical guidance can be sought at the newly launched Canadian Wood Display Centre
in Mumbai.
