The Berlin Chair
designed by Meinhard von Gerkan for the furniture maker Walter Knoll in 1975 was recently re-launched at the Milan
Furniture Fair - Salone Internazionale del Mobile!
Precisely forty years
after its introduction, the Berlin Chair was re-launched for the VIP lounge of
Berlin Tegel Airport. Quote from the product description: “Succinct, logical,
authentic – the Berlin Chair – a masterpiece of modern design. Inspired by the
functionalism and logic of Scandinavian design, the chair is to this day a
prime example of timeless aesthetic appeal. Highly-polished steel supports
supple leather. Expensively finished, with comfortable soft padding. The
intrinsic value of the design lies in the clear lines, the materials, the
unself-conscious harmony, and the special craft quality. And not least the
precision – art that leaves nothing to chance. Slower, quieter, longer lasting.
Timeless and familiar in the best sense. For discerning connoisseurship and
orientation in the material world.”
